A fun filled week of theatre games and expressive arts!
We will MAKE A SHOW!

With the foundations rooted in clowning principles, we will devise a theatre show on the themes of growth mindset and the art of making mistakes through:

-character development
-styles of performance
-story creation
-dance and music
-shadow puppetry

The games and exercises we work/play with contribute to the building of:

-self confidence, self identity
-creative communication, and thinking patterns
-community identity (listening, collaborating, and supporting each other)
-emotional and physical awareness (it’s ok FEEL!)
-exploring eye contact, “seeing and being seen” (it’s ok to FEEL AWKWARD, and the bravery of vulnerability)

Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a lunch and water.

Facilitators: Nayana Fielkov and Candice Roberts

Nayana Fielkov is a Canadian based performing artist greatly dedicated to the serious work of play. She brings together the mediums of clowning, dance, mask and physical comedy. As creator and performer Nayana contributed to a large body of work, including multi award winning shows Falling Awake and Hotel Vortruba from RAGMOP Theatre, Habitats (supported by Canada Council for the Arts and BC Arts Council), the roving troupe The Ladies in White, the clown troupe Poupon Parade, the theatrical musical ensemble The Myrtle Family Band, and was assistant director in the Jesse Award nominated Hard Times Hit Parade. She conceived a collection of solo cabaret acts, which continue to show in a variety of venues, and is an active founding member of the Dusty Flower Pot Cabaret. Nayana has taught contact improvisation and clown work internationally, and facilitated youth in theatre creation for Still Moon Arts Society, the Saltspring Centre of Yoga, and The International Children’s Festival. She is also a maker of puppets, clothing, and costumes, and the proud mother of a eight-year-old boy.

Candice Roberts is a Canadian comedy artist.

Her original works encompass physical theatre, music and clown to investigate the humour and heartbreak of our social and human conditions.

She is an avid researcher of CREATIVITY, and the connections between self expression, mental health and community.

Candice presently tours internationally with her award winning solo show; LARRY, a “daring, provocative and hilarious” gender-bending feminist comedy.

She is the artistic director of CANDY BONES THEATRE which devises and tours innovative, immersive and original theatre for young audiences. Watch out for IDEAS BOBERT, a ridiculous family comedy in the likes of Charlie Chaplin and MAKE A MISTAKE, a brand new CCA supported collaboration with Nayana Fielkov about the ART OF FAILURE!

We would like to acknowldege that our work, rest and play takes place takes place on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
