I’d love to include you in my process of creating a NEW SHOW!
THE CURE FOR FEAR is a physical theatrical/ digital arts exploration around the disconnection that occurs from trauma. In a world where the power holders would have us privatize and distrust our feelings in silence and obedience, how does one begin the process of decolonization and reconnection? What transformation happens within the psyche as a person emerges from despondency and disembodiment?
I intend to devise this full length show as a visual feast for the eyes, told through mask, costume, clown, puppetry and poetry of the body. In this process I am reflecting on how colonialism has affected my mind, how it influences the we think, and how we process the world. What are the ways in which I can reveal and reflect unconscious thinking patterns? I intend to support the normalization of extreme emotional states and shine a light on the effects of developmental trauma. I hope to inspire conversation, and perhaps a spark that might lead someone on a path back to themselves. Within this I aspire to also provoke some good old fashioned belly laughs and offer a taste of awe-inspired spectacle. I truly believe in the power of laughter to open people up to new perspectives.
ABOUT THE CHARACTER in THE CURE FOR FEAR:
Please meet Loretta, an endearing human who tries so hard to hide from her own unhappiness and discomfort. Her false positivity is apparent and her sadness is palpable, but I intend to explore the humour and tenderness that can arise in the delight and truth in which the character is played. Repressed and isolated she feels a false sense of connection through the on-line world. By day she makes “how to videos” for youtube but by night, we peek into her psyche as her dreams reveal her truth. She yearns to belong. She yearns to fly.
Loretta is a character who represents my own 10+ years of struggle with depression and unworthiness and my own call to continuously move beyond my comfort thresholds.
Charlie Chaplin was once quoted as saying: “To truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain, and play with it.”
I have launched a PATREON page where if you are so keen, you can make a small monthly donation and get access to private process videos as well as an on-line community where we can share our ideas, inspirations and experiences.
Having said that, you do not have to become a PATREON member to enjoy plenty of FREE CONTENT on PATREON or HERE at my website. At this point, I’m more excited to share the process and hear about your stories.
Also, I am not opposed to one time donations through paypal or etransfer to: firstname.lastname@example.org
I have only a small inkling of what I’m doing, and learning as I go, so we’ll see what transpires!
